Originally of Syrian descent, she grew up between Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon, and the United States. Through her studies she began to expand on the ancient tradition of Arabic Calligraphy by giving it a modern twist. As an Arab American, she felt the need for her artwork to reflect the richness of her Middle Eastern heritage coupled with her love of Western diversity. It was the artwork of Moroccan calligrapher Hassan Massoudy that first introduced Hibrawi to the artistic and intricate world of the Arabic language. She held her first exhibition as a high school senior at The Williston Northampton School in Massachusetts, and then moved to Southern California, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California State University.goodness-comes-to-those-who-believe-in-it Hibrawi’s original work is sought by collectors worldwide and has been exhibited in galleries across the United States as well as in the permanent collection of the Arab American Museum in Detroit, Michigan for her work with UNICEF. Recently, her paintings were acquired by US Ambassador to NATO Mr. Kurt Volker for his home in Brussels Belgium. As a result, the US State department selected her work for a 2010 wall calendar to be distributed to embassies worldwide. She has been featured in The Syrian Cultural Arts & History Center in Canada, The Washington Report and Arab News where she was named “Artistic Ambassador”. Hibrawi runs a portrait studio, MyPopart.com, in California and hopes to continue bridging Arab and American cultures through her artwork.

Artist Statement

Every day I am thankful for the ability to communicate visually through painting. It grounds me. It has lead me to discover new inspirations and stories – something unexpected. Beauty lies within the intricacies of daily life, unexpected inspirations that you never see coming.  Whether its the elderly woman sitting next to me  on the plane with fascinating tales of her long lost love or the simple lines of a tulip curving upwards. Being inspired has never come from one specific source,  its everywhere, its just a matter of recognizing it. I believe art is simply meant to be celebrated. Artists are observers and it is our job to bring an awareness to those sleeping. Beauty is not only in the eye of the beholder its in the things we don’t expect. I invite you to observe my paintings with their floral spirits, vibrant colors, mysterious feminine lines, and contemplative moods. It is my hope that you will experience the world I envision through the fusion of paint and introspection. www.kindahibrawi.com 127_small
